Best Place to Buy Cull Silver Dollars Online?
I'm currently living in Korea and not in a position to go to the local coin dealer to stock up on cull Morgans and Peace dollars. I bought a few from Apmex a while back when they had some, but haven't had any for more than a month.
I found one place, Northern Nevada Coins that sells them currently for $242.60 per roll of 20: http://www.brokencc.com/bulkdollars.php I was wondering if anyone knew of anywhere else I can buy them? I have about 100 and would like to increase my stash to at least 500 over the next year or so. I don't know about anyone else, but I like silver dollars. They have weight, they sound like real money and feel like real money. And in a WTSHTF situation, they have a psychological recognition factor as REAL money. :emotions15: |

That seems a little steep to me but I don't follow silver dollars at all. Doesn't 1 silver dollar have approximately .75 ounces AG? They want $12 + for them? Does not compute on a purely bullion basis.

I concur with the fellow MP. I stray clear of silver dollars and spend less money buying one ounce silver coins w/ reputable names (my favorite are US Strategic Stockpile rounds). On the subject of Morgans, my local dealer showed me a box of about 50 fake Morgans that a guy purchased while he was on vacation in the Philippines. The purchase price was $850.00 and the guy apparently bought them up when he researched the prices for the dated coins. The poor guy brought them into the shop and was hoping to walk out with enough cash to put his kids through college. The coins were so light, I am dumbfounded as to how anyone could fail to notice this. Anyway, Happy Independence Day All!

Hugo, You got PM asking where you are at in Korea. I am also in Korea but do not want to anounce where (no where special) in the public forums.

Re: Best Place to Buy Cull Silver Dollars Online?
Agree with posts that a bullion buyer needs to avoid old U.S. (and Canadian) silver dollars unless they can be purchased for 1.00USD over spot. I believe this amount over spot because there is value in the U.S./Canadian Gov't guarantee re 90%/80% Ag content and purity, and the fact that these coins are readily recognized and accepted = great liquidity.

Hmmmm...........interesting comments. I've been loading up on 90% pre-1964 silver coins from Apmex--usually in the form of quarters. Maybe I should reconsider buying a huge amount of silver dollars. Thanks for the responses.

90%..."...usually in the form of quarters..."
You might want to seriously think about increasing your holdings of dimes. |

I too am curious as to the interest in silver dimes as I favor quarters and half dollars.

Re: Best Place to Buy Cull Silver Dollars Online?
Many many folks who acquire 90% U.S. &/or 80% Canandian silver coins prefer dimes because in a dollar collapse or some type of SHTF environment (particularly if the price of AU and Ag significantly increase in value), it is believed that a small denomination coin will be important to purchase/trade for small cost items, and that a person can always put 2,3,4,5, or more of them together to cover a somewhat larger cost.
And quarters have seemed to generally be less desirable then both dimes and halves. |
